RECORD-BREAKER

Record-Breaking crowds visited the Blueberry Capital of the World, as the Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance and Banking, presented the 25th Anniversary Red, White & Blueberry Festival on June 26, 2011. Perfect summer weather combined with music, crafters, great food, classic cars, rides, over 2 million blueberries and a signature cake from TV’s Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, to bring over 20,000 fans to Hammonton to pay homage to New Jersey’s official state fruit. Our thanks to the entire Hammonton community for making it the best ever.

Hollywood meets Hammonton at Chamber Event

A little bit of Hollywood added to the usual festive atmosphere, as a capacity crowd enjoyed a beautiful spring evening at our 3rd Annual Wine & Beer Expo held at Tomasello’s Winery Tuesday May 3rd. Guests sampled great wines from Canal’s BottleStop in Marlton, cheese from Bagliani’s Market, chocolate treats from Sassy Sweets and a sumptuous dinner buffet, while also participating in a silent auction conducted by MainStreet Hammonton.

However, a unique auction benefiting the Hammonton Education Foundation became the evening’s highlight. Hammontonian Nelson Johnson, author of Boardwalk Empire, the book that inspired the HBO series of the same name, donated a replica of the “Welcome to Hammonton” sign that was seen in the show. The bidding for this one-of-a-kind item (signed by executive producer Terence Winter and the entire cast) was brisk, with the final bid of $3,750 provided by Mayor Steve DiDonato. However, two of the most spirited participants, Charles Kramer and former Senator Bill Gormley, along with the mayor, were involved in two separate magnanimous gestures following the end of the auction. In an arrangement with Mayor DiDonato, the sign will be displayed at Kramer Beverage Company in Hammonton and Mr. Kramer will donate $3,500 to the Foundation, while the mayor will contribute an additional $1,000. Senator Gormley then graciously donated $3,000 to the cause. Said Co-Chairman Bob Bucknam, “It was a terrific night and the generosity exhibited by Charles, Steve and Bill was phenomenal.” The event, held each spring at Tomasello’s, was sponsored by the law firm of Archer & Greiner, PC.
